Boston’s Weekly Dig Expands to Providence, RI

Capitalizes on Rapid Readership Growth

Effective June 2, 2004, Boston’s Weekly Dig began distributing in Providence, Rhode Island, with over 40 initial points added the first week, and 100+ locations planned for phase two later this year, including 25 street boxes placed throughout the downtown and greater Providence area. All area universities have been included in the first phase of expanded distribution. The Providence market, one of the fastest growing in the northeast corridor, is approximately 45 miles from downtown Boston.

“We’ve been incredibly impressed with our overall growth rate within the Boston DMA, and just felt it was time to expand our footprint a bit further,” says Jeff Lawrence, Publisher/President of Boston’s Weekly Dig. “We receive multiple requests each week for distribution in Providence and beyond, and the time was right to satisfy that need. We’ll also be adding regional coverage of music, arts and film, complete with multi-market listings, in the foreseeable future.”

According to the January 2004 Media Audit for Boston, the Weekly Dig’s readership grew faster than any other alternative or entertainment publication in the Boston market during the previous six months, exceeding 40% in cume readership growth during that period.

“Some amazing things are happening right now at the Weekly Dig, with the distribution expansion only the tip of the iceberg,” says Lawrence.
