L.A. Weekly investigative reporter Christine Pelisek must have left quite an impression on the editors of the Daily Beast when she penned this piece for them in July: they’re hiring her away from the Weekly.

Pelisek grabbed national attention for her coverage of the “Grim Sleeper” serial killer in Los Angeles, and in the aforementioned Daily Beast article she details how the investigation came together:

. . . my skin tingled and a light sweat broke out on my forehead as my source at the coroner’s office told me that his office was quietly launching a task force to investigate whether more than three dozen murders in the Los Angeles area were connected.
I knew I had stumbled onto something that no one else had reported: a serial killer on the loose in Southern California.
