Long Island Press Goes Daily, Interactive with Overhauled Web Site

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. — February 17, 2005 — Today, the Long Island Press will launch a newly updated version of LONGISLANDPRESS.COM, transforming the popular weekly publication into a daily interactive online news and information source.

“What makes this Web site different from other newspaper Web sites is that it is Long Island-based and targeted specifically to local needs and interests,” says Beverly Fortune, publisher of LongIslandPress.com. “From real estate and classifieds to headline news, restaurant reviews and movie listings, Long Islanders will find a one-stop-shop for living, working and recreation in Nassau and Suffolk.”

Daily updated features include investigative stories, local news, politics, events and classifieds as well as movie and real estate listings, horoscopes, weather and stock reports, all of which are regional to Long Island. Weekly updated local topics range from music, food, dining, lifestyle, health, fashion, arts, sports, electronics, and pets to reviews on theater, CDs, DVDs, television shows, videogames and movies. Advice on subjects such as parenting, cars and finances are also featured, as well as a Spanish-language advice column, “Consejos.” Popular columnists from the print version of the Press, including Ed Lowe, Amy Fisher and renowned food critic Ron Beigel, Editor of the Long Island edition of Zagat Survey, round out the Web content.

For those Long Islanders who are interested in news outside of the region, LongIslandPress.com will feature a continuous feed from Reuters for important national and international news, as well as a daily Hollywood update.

The most exciting new feature offered to readers of LongIslandPress.com is the Web site’s exclusive E-News e-mail option. With LongIslandPress.com E-News, thousands of opt-in consumers will be e-mailed free designated articles, columns and information they personally request. Readers are able to sign-up to receive information that is targeted to meet their special chosen interests. Each E-News e-mail is derived from the paper’s content, supplemented with online information that is updated daily. Coinciding with certain corresponding sections of the print publication, an E-News e-mail will be sent out either daily or weekly to those readers who have signed up for the service.

“Pressing News” is a daily E-News e-mail option that contains the latest news, business, weather and stock reports. Monday’s “Sports Review” e-mail includes updates from the sports, Nascar, fantasy, local college and local high school coverage sections of the paper. Tuesday’s “Long Island Lifestyles” e-mail features Press information on fashion, pets, technology, food, and body, mind & spirit. Readers can choose from a variety of Wednesday e-mails including “Ed Lowe & More: Long Island’s Life and Times,” “Amy Fisher Tells it Like It Is” and “Technofile & Gadgets.”

On Thursdays, those who opt in will receive an e-mail from “Pressing Savings,” full of coupon specials exclusive to Press readers. “Restaurants, Movies & More” are received by opt-in subscribers each Friday. This e-mail includes updates on movie trailers, reviews and show times as well as CD and DVD reviews. It also features pieces on celebrities, television, arts and music. Restaurant listings and reviews and a seven-day menu planner are also included.

In the near future, the site will feature blogging. In addition, readers will soon be able to post their own resumes and businesses will have the ability to personally post job listings within the coming weeks.
