Metro Santa Cruz Nabs Exclusive Interview

News Editor Interviews Female Child Molester.

On April 5, Metro Santa Cruz ran News Editor John Yewell’s cover story about Laurie Flower, a 40-year-old woman who was convicted of having a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old foster child in her care.

Flower’s original defense attorney was Peter Chang, a former Santa Cruz County district attorney who has admitted that he had a sexual relationship with Flower while he was defending her. After Chang was removed as Flower’s defense counsel, he was charged with three felonies and three misdemeanors over allegations that he tried to induce Flower to lie and to hide the 13-year-old boy by shipping him off to Hawaii. Meanwhile, on the same day the police executed a search warrant on his home, Chang announced his intention to run for district attorney again.

After the smoke had cleared, Flower pled guilty to child molestation, Chang pled out to a single misdemeanor and lost the election and Yewell got an exclusive interview with Flower. Inside Edition is set to air a story on the sordid affair tomorrow, May 3, two days after Flower was jailed. Please check local listings for air time.
