Bill Davis Named Advertising Director of OC Weekly

COSTA MESA, CA, Sept. 17, 2002 – OC Weekly, the alternative voice of Orange County, today announced the appointment of Bill Davis as Advertising Director.

A veteran of the print industry, Davis comes most recently from both the Denver Post and Denver News, where he served as Travel Sales Manager for national and retail accounts. Subsequently, Davis worked as Classified Automotive Sales Manager for The Press-Enterprise and Director of Sales & Customer Service for CarParts.com, which when coupled, signify the Weekly’s push into automotive ad sales.

“My job is to take a staff with infinite potential and guide them through the maturation process, whereupon the Weekly will benefit in two ways: diversified ad categories and increased revenue,” says Davis. “Bottom line: an even bigger, better paper is on its way.”

Davis is the second former Los Angeles Times hire made by OC Weekly and LA Weekly publisher Beth Sestanovich, herself a former Advertising Director for the daily. “With Bill we’re marrying the business strategy of the dailies with the entrepreneurial and creative instincts of alternative weeklies,” says Sestanovich.

Davis will work in tandem with editor/associate publisher Will Swaim to intensify the competition between rival papers. “Bill is smarter, faster and stronger than anyone at the Times and Register, and his truck is far bigger than anything in their parking lots,” says Swaim. “We’ve always been stronger than the Times and Register in all but two categories: ad sales and boring the hell out of our readers. With Bill Davis, the ad sales are taken care of.”
