Seven Days Increases Circulation to 36,000

Burlington, Vt. – Seven Days is increasing the weekly circulation of its free newspapers by 1000 copies and adding new distribution outlets in the Northeast Kingdom.

Starting on Wednesday, July 24, a total of 36,000 papers will be printed and distributed within a two-hour radius of the company’s Burlington headquarters. That number represents a threefold increase over the paper’s initial 1995 circulation of 12,000.

The last circulation increase was mid-recession, in 2009.

“Contrary to what you hear about digital media consumption, we can’t seem to print enough hard-copy papers to meet the demand,” says Seven Days publisher and co-editor Paula Routly. “If a regular distribution spot runs out too soon, we hear about it. We also get calls from people in areas that don’t get the paper, saying how much they wish we’d deliver there.”

Half of the additional copies will be used to restock popular drop sites in Chittenden County. The other 500 will be distributed to Champlain Farms in Derby, Lago Trattoria, Newport Natural Market, Jay Peak Resort, Northeast Kingdom Tasting Center, Le Belvedere, Woodknot Bookshop & Turner’s Cafe, Vista Foods, East Side Restaurant, Parker Pie, C Village Store, Craftsbury General Store, Mac Center for the Arts, Willy’s Store and the Craftsbury Town Hall.

“The Northeast Kingdom has been asking for more papers for a while now,” says Steve Hadeka, who has been circulation manager since 2006. “And if you believe what you read in Seven Days, a lot of cool stuff is happening there. The time is definitely right.”
