Houston Press, Fort Worth Weekly, and Dallas Observer were a cut above the competition at the Houston Press Club’s Lone Star Awards.
The Houston Press dominated its division, taking 11 awards in total, including Print Journalist of the Year for Craig Malisow. The paper also won awards in the Public Service, Politics/Government, Business Story, General Commentary/Criticism and Photo Package categories.
The Dallas Observer took eight awards, winning first-place in News or Feature Story, Politics/Government and Public Service. The paper also shared first-place with Houston Press in the Investigative Reporting category for the collaborative story, “Asylum Denied,” by Chris Vogel and Patrick Michels.
Fort Worth Weekly also took 11 awards in its division, including Print Journalist of the Year for Jeff Prince. Other first-place winners from the paper included Dan McGraw and Susan Costa (News or Feature Reporting), Peter Gorman (Investigative Reporting), Caroline Collier (Politics/Government), and Eric Griffey (Business Story).
